Okay you want to do a conversion: Step one is to obtain some good engine wireing diagrams for both cars. What year are you starting with? What year EFI are you putting in? It is fairly simple when starting with an existing EEC IV car (85/86 1BBL carbed engines) Because most of the hookups are already existing.

You will need the Engine harness for the EFI engine, and all the sensors, and most importantly the EEC. While grabbing all this it is a good idea to grab a the tank and fuel lines from an EFI car. The biggest problem (as with the 5.0 swaps ) is the Fuel guage, unless you find one from a pre 87 EFI car, you will problay be stuck with a backwards guage. While grabbing the tank, you might want to think about what you are going to do about the fuel pump wireing. Again all of this is the same as what is done with a 5.0.

When it comes down to engine wireing, the harnesses are mostly standalone (although ford tends to run 8 million other things through the harness anyway). My Turbo EFI swap required the following connectins, there was a 12V passthough at the Voltage regulator, a 12V pickup at the starter syonid, a 12V start/run pickup which also acted as the EEC power relay tigger, and a Tach hookup.

I used the OLD coil hookup for the 12V start run relay trigger and tach signal. in the old 2.3's the coil hook up is part of the BODY harness, so it doesn't come out with the engine harness. It will supply 12V (somewhat, there is supoedly a jumperwire that needs to be installed to get it to supply more power during start, MfpMax should know more about this) at start run to trigger the power relay to turn on the computer. And the other side provides a convient path to the factory tach for your tach hookup.

later models use the IRCM which im not too familar with, so others will know more about that setup. For the most part it is the same as doing anyother Ford EFI swap. Most of the hookups are going to be the same, There isnt THAT much of a diffrence between the two.

    Its all about the planing.

Hopefully I just didnt make a total ass outof myself by spouting off total crap, all i know is my EFI Turbo engine runs :-D

Good Luck, feel free to pick my brain, although im not sure there is much left up there.

Ok, well here is what I got:
    1981 Mustang 2.3L

This is what I am going to look at tommorow after work. Has some body damage and thats it. The '89 is what I am going to pull the stuff out of and sell parts from.

    1989 Mustang LX 2.3L

Havent seen the '89 yet so I will let you know about it after I get back. Will probably get it. As for swapping the tank, I was reading that an inline 255 pump would do the trick and I would not need to replace the tank so I would not have fuel gauge problems. If thats the case Im going that way unless it poses other problems.

rember with the inline setup, you still have to run a return line back to the tank, and attch a fitting to the sender to let gas back into the tank.

There is always something. Though at this point that sounds like the best solution, however I do have access to the entire '89 EFI now so I will have to take a look and make some considerations. Going to go take a look at that car later tonight. The owner is an old lady and she does not know much about the car... it has a *small* engine. So we will see tonight.

    Well... a 302 is a "small" engine compared to a BOSS 429....
