Default External Fuel Pump In The Way

    Hey everyone, kinda new here.

I have an 84 GT with an in-line elect. pump, I went to have my catback installed but the muffler guy said he couldn't do it because of my fuel pump and fuel filter would be in the way of the passenger side muffler.

Does anyone have any suggestions on where and how to relocate it.

there's usually enough room by the right rear corner of the fuel tank. you could always go back to mechanical and eliminate the whole problem...

it's a CFI car so a mechanical pump will not work...

and I also love that last line....

I would think you could get a fuel tank for the later sefi car's that had the pump inside the fuel tank, cfi ran on 40 psi, sefi ran 40-45 psi.

I had a friend with a 1984 cfi the pump was in the tank. Is it the pump or the filter? The filter should not be hard to relocate.

It's both the Filter and the pump that are in the way. There's a bracket holding the pump and underneath the bracket is the filter.

I had one of those - note the past tense. I unplugged it from the fuel line, reconnected the lines (plastic lines have the male/female connectors), dropped the tank and installed a Walbro GSS340. Piece o' cake.

    Sounds too easy....

Did you leave the filter where it's at.

Hope you find a solution,Rich. Time to call up on LSS for a mod day

Could you just not move and extend the wires/lines?

That's what I'm hoping to do as soon as I can find a suitable place to move it to. I'm also entertaining the idea of a newer tank with an internal pump, but I need to get more info on that.
