    Default Blower Motor Installation without removing dash - video and thoughts

    Hello all,

    I had my heater core replaced, and I did not have my blower motor replaced while they were doing this

    It was working fine, but with a 40 year old car, I should of done it. Still at myself.

    About two months later of working fine, my blower motor started to squeal on high. It works on lower speeds.

    I was looking for alternatives. I saw this on YouTube. This user says he can change the blower motor without the dash being removed. Looks like an 87-93 Mustang, but I wonder if it could apply to our 79-86? Please look and let me know if you have done this, or think its possible.

    Thanks!

    Thats the same blower box in my 84 convertible. Be careful of the mounting tabs. The video shows they are steel but on mine they were plastic and broke off. I repaired mine with sheet metal and pop rivets to rebuild the tabs with sheet metal.

    Also be advised that after market blowers suck. They are most likely revere wired so check for rotation of your old one compared to the new one. If the new one rotates opposite, just reverse the wires.

    I was so disgusted by the aftermarket blower motor that I put my original back in and it stopped squealing.

    Heres a link to my thread on this;

    Thanks for the feedback. Good post there! I was able to buy a NOS Motorcraft blower fan. Hopefully it will be ok

    My sons 80 cobra had an original blower motor that squealed.

    Rather than replace I was able to remove, disassemble, clean, and re-lube a couple spots on the motor shaft if I remember right.

    It worked. Hasn't squealed since. Might be an option to buying an inferior aftermarket etc.

    I did a write up about this on the SVOCA forum. It pertains specifically to 85 and 86 BUT might work for other years like your 83...

    For the 85/86 the dash does NOT have to be removed and the motor replacement is actually a very easy process...there is even a video of me pulling it out to show the dash does not get removed
