I have an 84 LX convertible. About 2 years back I started having issues with the headlight function. The normal functionality is if you pull one notch the park lights come on, pule to the end and the headlights come on with the park lights.
If I pull my headlight knob all the way I get headlights but no park lights or dash lights. If I slightly push the knob back inward I can find the sweet spot and I get my park/dash lights on with headlights. But, the headlights flicker now when they didn't used to do that.
I assumed it was the headlight switch. I tried two new switches 2 summers back. Both performed the same way so I returned them and put the original back in thinking I'd try again some other time. Well now it's time. This quirk irritates me. The aftermarket switches I tried were Standard, I was thinking to order one from LMR. They have a headlight switch that is supposed to function with or without fog lights. It might be worth a try but I still keep thinking its a bad ground.
Speaking of fog lights, I installed a front bumper cover from an 84 GT on my LX so I did a fog light set up although not stock. I first noticed this issue at the same time I noticed my fog lights stopped working. After having a stereo shop install a stereo and subwoofer for me around 2 years ago. The shop refused to look at the fog light and swore he didn't touch anything not radio related, but I always attributed the fog light failure and the headlight issue with happening right after I had a stereo installed.
Anybody have insight on this issue?
