    Default Fairmont Catalytic Convertor...

I am trying to find the factory stock front pipe/catalytic convertor for an 1980 Fairmont with the 3.3 litre (200 ci) inline six. I have a used pipe that I could pull from a donor vehicle but I would like to try and find a new one first. Does anyone know who makes or sells these pipes anymore? Many thanks...

No. I would be shocked if anyone made one of those anymore.

I think your best bet is going to be a used one off of a similar car or fabricate one using a generic converter.

Does it HAVE to be a factory one?

If not, a modern converter is going to put you WAY ahead of the old ones. You're just going to need one, and not the two of old, which is nice.

Going to require some custom exhaust work to do it, but that's the route I would go.

(I however don't build things to keep them original for the sake of originality, so YMMV)

No, it doesn't need to be factory. It doesn't even need to be a catalytic convertor. I have seen just a straight pipe that mounts directly to the exhaust manifold that is a 'replacement' for the front catalytic convertor. Ideally that hollow straight replacement pipe is what I would like to find. I just wanted to ask here first before installing a used cat or trying to do custom work. And thanks guys for the replies. It is most sincerely appreciated...

I did find something interesting though. Apparently you can still get a direct fit new catalytic converter for the 2.3 litre Fox Fords...

I guess I could look this up ‘frontwards’ or ‘backwards’.
I need a “Y” pipe. There’s no Walker or other after market that
I can find (ford said we stopped producing parts for anything older than 10 yrs old)
    for this specific model.
    I need a 3.8L Essix v6 pipe.
I think 4.2 v6 from a later pick up truck
and one from a v8 (need help to ID for ordering). My next step
is custom bending one up (rather not).

Do you know if the ‘97/04 F series p/u (4.2L) might fit it?
How bout a certain yr SBF 302, 5 oh, etc?
