Should the center caps on a 86 GT have the ford logo painted black?
Should the center caps on a 86 GT have the ford logo painted black?
Looking at some old Mustang brochures, some of the pics of the 10-hole rims had the Ford logo and oval painted black (or maybe it was a dark grey). Other brochure pics showed them definitely without any coloring. That's interesting that they varied like that.
They're long gone, but I seem to recall that my original 10-hole center cap logos were painted.
Also, looks like the reproduction 10-hole center caps I see now do not have any paint on them.

Thank you. From what I can tell they should be painted.

I think they definitely look better with the oval and Ford painted.

The painted part should be like the 2 year only...85-86...trim paint, which is dark charcoal. That's how my original 85 wheel center covers are. There's a date stamp on the back inside of the wheel, but I don't recall there being one on the covers.

An easy way to apply paint to a surface that is lower than it surrounds is wth a Hypodermic needle....
Fill the needle with paint ( or as much as you will need) then slowly apply it, while spreading out the paint with the needle....
Make sure your on a flat surface, let the paint flow out, let it dry, and wallah.... Its actually pretty easy to do...
Hardest part is acquiring the needles... I purchased a pack of insulin needles at the Pharmacy... I told them what I was going to do with them ( NOT looking like a dirtbag helped) and they sold them to me...... They were pretty cheap and come like 50 to a box....
I did my RT emblems on my old dodge with the same color as I painted it..... PIc of the tail panel emblem and a pic of the upper interior door plaque ( at the top of the door) where I used this technique...More areas than those two, but I can't find any good pics and the car was sold a year or so ago......
