Default Mustang seats in an LTD wagon?

I recently picked up an 84 LTD wagon. The interior is in OK condition, just very faded in some areas due to long term sun exposure with a very worn driver's seat. Has anyone tried swapping fox M/C hatchback seats into a fox wagon?

I've been to a junkyard to do some comparison and measuring. It looks like the hatchback rear fold down parts and hardware are identical to the wagon. But, the rear seat itself is about 4-5" narrower. So, I'm thinking the rear seat would fit, but would leave about 2" of extra space on each side.

The front seats look to have a different track system. They definitely bolt to the floor differently. Maybe I could swap the Mustang seats onto the LTD tracks?

    Any input is greatly appreciated!

I bolted 99 Mustang front bucket seats into my 79 2dr sedan. I have no idea about rear seats.

yes, you can attach your seat tracks to Mustang seats. Don't know about the rears though.

Think they were pretty common bolt pattern around that era. I had 87 mustang seats in my 79 bronco for a while.

The LTDs use the TBird bases on them, but the Mustang seats will bolt up.

'91 Ford Motorsport Cat; Motorsport Seat

Fits Ford corporate bucket seat track systems:

    79-91 Mustang/Capri
    80-88 Thunderbird Coupe
    81-90 Escort/Lynx/EXP/LNT
    84-91 Tempo/Topaz
    83-91 Ranger/Bronco II/Explorer
    83-91 Bronco
    80-91 E & F Series Truck

Since they definitely bolt into Fairmont/Zephyr which are not on the list, I'd bet on LTDs.

On my '85 the seat track attachment to the floor is wider than on a Mustang (at least the rear two bolts). Based on the above discussion it sounds like the seat itself might bolt onto the LTD seat track, but I don't think the Mustang seat track will directly bolt to the LTD floor.

The seat bases on the LTDs are the same as the 83-88 TBirds. (I have one of each vehicle in my driveway), which are different from the Mustangs (where they bolt to the floor).

Mustang seats will bolt to the LTD bases. Mustang bases won't bolt to the LTD floor.

I believe you will find bucket seat bases to have the same bolt pattern from 60s thru 2004. Seat tracks will be different.

My 79 Zephyr came with a bench seat and the 99 Mustang seats still bolted right in.
I bought 1 fox mustang seat track, that bolted to the floor but the 99 seats did not bolt to the track.

In my example, bases = tracks, so we're saying the same thing.

The seat-to-track/base mounting pattern is the same, as you mentioned.

The floor mounting pattern is not, between the LTD and the Mustang. The OP can bolt the Mustang front seats to his LTD bases/tracks.

    Bases/track compatibility: Fairmont --- > Mustang , LTD----> Tbird (83-88 )

On the rears, it sounds like you can make it work, and you may not even notice the narrower seat bottom when it's all said and done.
