    Default 79 inner window sweep

Greetings. I am replacing the all the window weather stripping on my 79 hatchback. I have replaced the run channel, I bought the outside door sweep and going to transfer the sweep part to my chrome ones. My problem is i can't find the correct inner dew sweep/window sweep for the 79 model. Any one know if there is a reproduction or replacement for this year. Thanks for your help.

Not sure if it is the case for 79, but the later ones 84-86, you and pop off the rubber dew wipe an reinstall on you old metal piece. I had to do this for my 85 McLaren since the metal is body coloy. It also comes in handy when the new ones arrived with bent metal.

    Sorry, missed the inner part.

The OP is referring to the inside window wipe, not the outside one that I think you are talking about. He mentions that he is doing just what you did, for his outer wipe.

85GT is correct. I removed the felt from the new outside sweep and installed it on my originals. The inside replacements have a chrome trim piece attached to them. The 79 has the chrome trim attached to the door panels which I think would interfere with the fitment. Unlike the outside trim, the felt can't be removed from the sweep. I looked at the74-78 Mustang II and Pinto and their inside window sweep does look similar - I may give them a try. Why you ask, I found that those models had several interior pieces that aren't found under 79 mustang - Shifter bezel trim, those small hand brake covers, manual window cranks and such. I'll order a set to see and I'll report back, just in case someone else is running into this issue. Boy, the real early Four eyes just don't get no love.

The 79-81 inner window sweep is unique to those models due to the plastic door panel. the window sweep sits on the pinch weld of the door shell rather than being attached to the door panel itself. The sweep also has a V section towards the door panel that the panel sits down in to properly locate it on the door shell. Unfortunately the 82-93 inner window sweeps are totally different and do not interchange. Thankfully my sweeps have been in good condition and I have not been required to look for replacements as of yet. I did look for options at one time many years ago when refurbishing my Pace Car a bit, but didn't have any luck finding a solution. The Mustang II and Pinto models might be a good option, but I have not checked into those myself. Definitely let us know what you find out as I am sure I will need a set at some point in the future. Good Luck!
