Does anyone know what "Paint Dept" "Final Buy Off" means?

It is on the bottom of one of the scans I attached here and has some yellow marker or stamping on it...

The mystery deepens with this car

    Thank you for decoding that.

I have a question, the AAD-7238 form under the "DAMAGE" section specifically mentions the "HEADER" which is cirlcled and also circled "Fit", Can someone tell me what the "Header" is? I believe it to be the front of the car, is this correct?

Obviously from the repair sheet it showed as Damaged or a Fitment issue? Is that correct in anyone's opinion?

Yep, the headlight panel is sometimes called the header panel. So the pics you posted on the core support might be associated with what was stated for the QC issue on the header panel.

This indicates that the SVO came with factory installed floor mats. Is that all SVO's or was it ordered? Was this listed as an option on the window sticker?

Out of all of the SVO build sheets that I have collected, all 1984 models except Comp Prep have "F" code for floor mats and all 1985 and 1986 models, including Comp Prep, have "C" code for floor mats.

    Very interesting.

Out of all the SVO's that I have owned, only 1 had factory floor mats (I was the second owner) and the story I was told; the original owner ordered an '85.5, but due to the truckers strike, what showed up was actually an early '86. The owner didn't want the '86 so the dealership threw in mats and cruise control. I did not buy the "truckers strike" story as to why he didn't get his order, although there was a strike that summer, the order would have just been delayed.

Anyway, very interesting info. Thank you.

I need to look at my build sheets as well. I know the window stickers do not show it as an option on my cars.

The only CARPET/MATS code that I have seen on any 1984 build sheet, SVO or otherwise, was "F". All 1984 SVO build sheets, except for Comp Prep models, had that code. All other 1984 non-SVOs may or may not have had that code.

For 1985 and 1986, there were several different CARPET/MATS codes. All SVOs had "C". All non-SVOs had something other than C or nothing.
    B = blue floor mats
C = SVO (Charcoal) floor mats

So, it appears that this code represents the color of the carpet/mats. In this case being an '85 SVO, it would be charcoal.

How do you know if "mats" are included in the build?

This is actually one of the 1st 85.5 SVOs made...is that correct? Door tag says June 6th 1985. An honor for this car to be built on a historical date (D-Day)

FF230303 was the 12th 85.5 'scheduled for production' (assigned a VIN). I do not know the build order. Mustangs were never built in consecutive order by the VIN. Door tag has a date consisting of a month and year, but not a day.

The certificate says that mine is #4 of 71 so tha would "I assume" means that there are 3 other 9Ls before mine. I def do not have more than a HS education but that is how I read that. I def have gotten things wrong in the past... what do you think?

  23. #23

You assume that those 11 VINs were built before yours. But there could be VINs after yours that were built before yours, and those other (higher) VINs could be #1 through #3. Cars were not built in order by the VIN.

The way they get those certificate numbers is not correct, but it's the only way they can. The only way to know the "real" number is to know the exact order of every VIN on the T&C line, or in other words, know the rotations number of every unit on every day. Not even Ford knows that - they did not keep that info - so neither does anyone else. The best they can do is the production date. Then they assign a number, in consecutive order by the VIN, to all units built the same day.

On an interesting note. I did happen to find a 1984 Option Rapid Spec / Ordering code (12H) for Mustang L,LX,GT & Turbo GT Series - Floor Mats, Front Carpet Color-Keyed option for $22. Looking at the 1985 and 1986 Mustang Rapid Spec / Ordering codes, that ordering code didn't show up.
