Default 45 Years Ago Today I Began My Fox Journey

45 years ago today I began my journey to how I ended up buying a Fox.

My girlfriend asked me to drive a friend of hers from Ravenna Ohio to Wadsworth Ohio. A distance of about 35 miles. Snow was beginning to fall and I figured to be home in about an hour. Well that never happened. The snow turned into a blizzard while on the freeway. It was snowing so hard that we had to stop twice because of viability issues. That was on Thursday, and I got stranded in Wadsworth.
Friday no roads were plowed so I could not leave. Called my place of employment where I operated a machine with 5 helpers to tell them I was not coming on Friday. Could not leave Wadsworth as the snow was still falling and there was no way out. And was told If I did not get back by Saturday, don't bother coming again. They did not like paying 5 guys to do nothing but sweep the plant for days on end. Late Friday afternoon there was a little break in the snow so I left. Others had the same idea. It was dark out. On the freeway the snow started again and viability was 0. There were accidents everywhere. I ventured on until a VW Bus spun out in front of me. I was slowing down to avoid hitting him. We stopped facing each other in the far left lane. A Mustang behind me spun out of control and hit me square in the rear pushing the trunk into the back seat. Since no one was going to come help in that mess I limped my '65 Comet home. It was beyond repair.
Needed another car so I decided on The "New For 1978 Mercury Zephyr". That story begins here.

What did the gas tank look like? I think they were the trunk floor like first gen Mustangs.
I know my 69 Torino was like that.
My first Fox Body was less dramatic. We traded my late wife's tired 74 Mustang II for an 81 t top Mustang Gia.
Sadly 2 years later it died a horrible death when someone bounced a Toyota off a Caddy when they ran a red light in front of me.

The dealership where I ordered the car was a place full of drunks. Hard for them to do anything right. The car came in the Medium Red that I wanted.
I doubt the carb on my straight 6, 3.3 is the original. I have several on the shelf that I have rebuilt. They get changed when I cannot adjust one to pass the smog test. Then rebuild the old one later.

No, the gas tank is held on with straps and the spare tire well is in the floor of the trunk.
