    Default Transmission help.

Hello its been quite awhile since i have been on here ! I am putting a new t5 in my 85 mustang ,The original one in there now is grinding and whining . The one in my car now is a Non world class T5. I guess my car was built early 85 got a 84 transmission, Im putting a newer world class in it , My 85 has a Overdrive indicator switch located on the pass side top of the T5. My question is the newer T5 has one on the driver side with a different plug dosent match my plug. Is this plug there to tell you if you are in overdrive. Im wondering what to do now lol.

    A light/indicator to tell you if you're in overdrive??? It's a manual 5-speed. If you're in 5th gear you're in overdrive.
Are you sure it isn't either:
    1- A neutral sensor
    2- Backup light switch
    ?

richpet i guess in 1985 they called it a overdrive indicator (Switch) the plug screws in the passenger side top of the case , it has two wires on the plug with a blade type plug. I dont know what it does , Tyring to find out what it does . The back up switch is on the side of the T5 .

I think it turns off the up-shift indicator light in fifth gear.

That's the most logical explanation yet.

Never thought about that being needed, but it makes sense.

Ah! I had one of those lights in the first brand new car I ever bought - a 1988 Ford Escort Pony 4-speed.
I didn't realize Mustangs came with a shift light. Mine was an '83 SROD when it was born.

Changing from a SROD to a TKX in my 83.... I also have the two " blade" plug and my new TKX has the plug with two round connectors inside it....... LMR sells a plug to convert to the round.....
On my 83 I " believe" its for back up lights and the SROD has he plug clear at the back, next to the output shaft, while the TKX is on the side, like a T5 I believe.....
