    Default Idler Pulley

So I've had 86, 87, and 78 parts MkVII's over the years for donor stuff for the LTD. Idler pulley, new when
stroker was put in, has maybe 500 miles is squeaking when cold and has visible play at rest (even with belt tension on it).

    It looks like this one.

Rock auto claims an 89 Mk VII and 89 mustang use the same idler.

Assuming 89 mustang is the same, looking up that configuration for a higher quality part, stumbled on this.

I really don't care about a bling idler, I just want a higher quality bearing and I'm guessing the one's
in the 13-18$ range are all pretty much junk.

Any thoughts or experience with UPR idler.

It looks a lot like the one on my 02 s10. Rockauto offered the pulley or the bearing. I would go with the one with the best warranty. You could see if the bearing can be removed and find a quality replacement bearing.

I usually buy the bearing and replace it in the pulley

Is that usually do-able with pretty much any of the different idlers, or only the steel one's?

The steel ones. In my experience, the plastic ones will break if you try to press the bearing out

Thanks, I figured either that, or the plastic was "molded" around the bearing.
Anyway, I currently have a plastic one, will order the steel one for now I guess.

Not sure I can justify the $50 bling one, unless we have confirmation they use a much
    better bearing.

Ended up getting this one. Swapped it out, even though I don't think that is my issue, as
noise is still there. New one is metal and seems to be a hair smaller in dia, which helps my belt
routing, which had idler part of belt almost touching water pump pulley part of belt.

Take off the belt, start your car... If the noise is gone, its one of your accessories.... alternator, water pump, PS pump, smog pump......
