    Default "Port" Header Gasket?

Okay, so it makes sense to me that if my header gasket's port openings are smaller than the exhaust ports, I'd want to fix that. The thing is though, the gaskets I have from Mr. Gasket himself have this raised area around the port, presumably for better sealing. If I go to "port" the holes, I would be cutting some of that away. How would you proceed? Cut it all away? Don't do it at all?

I'd return those and buy a set that's larger.

Brad, do you know the size of the header outlet?
Here are some P/N's from Felpro and port sizes/notes.

    1468- 1.21x1.41 (Lightning)
    1467- 1.05x1.35 (Stock port)

    1486- 1.40x1.40 (J302, K302, Dual Bolt Pattern/Stock Ford and Splayed AFR)

Shoot, well I opened them, and you have to destroy the packaging to get them out.

I'll measure my ports and post. Thanks!

Maybe the vendor will take them back anyway.

Are those copper? Do they need to be annealed? They look really nice!

If those are Mr Gasket 7160's the port openings are

    1.48" port height
    1.12" port width

Yes, they are copper. I'm not familiar with annealing. Who knew header gaskets could be so complicated?

    Yes, they are 7160s

I was out test fitting again tonight, and I think it's not worth the effort to look for different ones. For height, I'm more than fine. The width is a tiny bit off, but that's probably okay. Thanks for all the help!

On our 2.8 when I ported the intake and exhaust I used the Felpro gasket to guide my material removal. Clearly the copper gasket port size looks to be dictating your flow.

I'm pretty sure my heads ARE ported to some degree. That's why it wasn't a far reach for me to figure these gaskets wouldn't work. I guess they are close enough though.
