    Default 1982 Mustang 2.3 Turbo

Hi, I just bought a 1982 Mustang with the 2300cc Turbo engine (carborator). VIN is 1FABP13T9CF125196. It is in gray or silver with red interior, 5-speed transmission and hood scoop with hole in the hood (standard with turbo?). The drivers door has been replaced in the past so I don't have the information on the door sticker. Can you decode the same information out of the buck tag?

    MUSTANG
    125196 61H T 0042
    1G DF ST
    RW 03 HB EX
    RM WD 05 V
    ELECTRIC-D

    Any information would be appreciated.
    Thanks

Hmm, I wasn't aware that the carbed turbo was available in 82, thought the 5.0 was the only "performance" engine (I use the word performance lightly) for that year. I thought ford skipped a year on the turbos to get to the EFI turbo in 83, which was a vast improvement over its predicessor.

That said, did Ford produce in Turbo GTs in 82? I'm pretty sure they didn't, but if they did, it would be pretty cool to have one.

It's been established (here and at the GT Registry) that the 2.3T (and other engines) were available in all '82 models (including the GT), just not in the US. However, even if an '82 GT had the 2.3T is was NOT called a GT Turbo, like the '83s and '84s were. It was still only called a GT.

When you say that it is not called a GT turbo Do you mean in the brouchers, and or what Ford described it.? I have a Turbocharged emblem on the passanger side just above the glove box.

I thought that Play400 car was 82? did I miss something?

Hey Freejack. yip. it is pretty cool.

The "GT Turbo" was the name for a Mustang model/trim level only in '83 and '84.

Any other model year GT with a 2.3T was not called a GT Turbo. It was only called a GT.

Hi, I see that this topic is back up

Here are some pics from my car, it's my daily driver but with these fuel price I don't know for how long (currently it's US$5.98 for a gallon).

Can anyone tell me what's the normal milage for a 2.3 turbo (carb)? I get 18 mpg.

    Nice looking car.

18 mpg seems about right as the turbo cars tend to be a bit needy on gas around town. It's when you can let them stretch their legs a bit a freeway speeds that the mileage comes up. You didn't mention how you drove the car (in town mainly, freeways, mix)..that will make a difference.

Making sure it's tuned up an running tip-top is always a good idea, and to check to make sure none brakes are dragging.

    OMG on fuel cost!!!

I get 20mpg with the SVO with short trips. 18 does seem bad with the carb turbo...

All the Canadian 82 Turbo cars got the 5 speed. Wasn't the t5 but the 1 with the bellhousing that bolts to the trans from the inside so you have to remove them together.

    Yep, a 5 speed transmission.

The Mustang is out of the running, it's just to costly now . I now drive a Ford Escort Van 1.8 Turbo Diesel which give me a mileage of 41 mpg.

I'm hoping for better times in the future

18 seems good considering you have a 5 speed mine was rated at 14 town and 28 highway and thats the 79 mustang pace car with the 2.3 T and a strait up 4 no OD. And I agree the Capri lights look good. And this is kinda a cheap thing to do i did it on mine. made mine run beter as the stock exhaust was restrictive. But unbolt the exhaust right under the passenger seat makes it louder and has a beter spool up with the turbo cause these turbos were not routed the best and they have lots of lag. But this mod (if you want to call it that) makes it run beter. and this is only temp just to see if you like it if you dont you can always bolt ib back together. have fun with the car and keep it clean.
