Great dyno results!! Which 30lb injectors did you use?

Your setup is a LOT like mine. Except I have 1.6 rockers, Explorer upper, and 24 lb injectors.

    Rebuilt EV6 Bosch injectors.

This was intended to be a baseline pull before winter mods (AFR165's and custom cam), but I'm second guessing swapping the heads even though I already own a set of new AFR's.

It's tempting to keep the current heads and cam and see how close I can get to 300rwhp with stock untouched 'P' heads and stock cam. I don't forsee hitting the magic 300 mark, but how close can I get?

    Hello!
276/318 to the tires is a respectable power level for your combination, especially considering the high mileage on the engine. It's worth noting that the combination of the stock Mustang cam, 1.7 Crane rockers, and ported Explorer lower intake likely contributed to the power gains you're seeing. The increased valve lift and duration from the rocker arms and the improved airflow from the ported lower intake can help the engine breathe better and produce more power.
Additionally, the GT40 tubular upper intake and 70mm Accufab throttle body likely helped increase airflow and power as well.

Do you know if the car was originally an Automatic? I've never heard of a Third Gen with a stick and 3.27 gears, stick cars always had either 3.08, or 2.73 in later years. Great pull though

Didn't install the AFR's/FTI cam this winter. Making a few subtle tweaks this year, hoping to hit 285/320. Still with stock cam and untouched 'P' heads. Will be using the same dyno.

So jealous. My GT40 3bars and my truck grind cam made 300 torque, but only maybe 220-230 HP (estimated flywheel). 180 HP at the wheels. I need to take it back to the Dyno though. Been a while and it is running real good these days.

Did a fair amount of tuning the last couple weeks. Made some notable improvement throughout, fairly significant in the 5+rpm area. Added another degree of timing and decided to keep the DIY intake I mocked up this winter. The new Motorcraft coil helped tremendously with idle quality and upper rpm power.

The pulls last year were made with the stock 86' 302,000 mile coil.

Very impressive numbers. I had a similar setup in the 89 LX I had many years ago. GT40P heads, stock Mustang cam, 1.7 rockers, Explorer intake, and 65mm throttle body, and my car made 256 at the wheels. I don't remember the torque, it was almost 20 years ago.

Dyno appointment for Thursday. Air temps should be high 60's, low 70's. If the air holds up and the changes over the last year are truly beneficial, would like to see 285/325. No internal changes made over the last year, from the TB to the oil pan.

My '95 did just about those same numbers with the following and no tune. The only thing mildly EEC related was the stock MAF meter had something done to it by UPR. I think the center "bridge" was machined off for more flow. I'd have to dig it out to see.

    94-95 Cobra Intake, box stock
    65 MM TB
    stock 19# injectors
    GSS340 pump (I think)
    Motorsport Y303 heads 64cc chambers
    1.6 Motorsport rockers
    underdrive pulleys
smog pump deleted with an idler pulley
    BBK shorty's
    BBK catted H-pipe
    Stock flow tubes and tailpipes
    T5
    3.73's

You have good numbers going on. I'm excited to see what your tweaks did!

Here's todays dyno results. The weakest run shown was last years best run at 275.26/318.1. The best runs this year were 280.72/326.5 and 281.13/325.76. Consistent gains throughout the mid range, 7-10lb-ft. Same dyno as last year, pulls made in 4th, SAE.

I think this is as good as it gets with stock 'P' heads and stock HO cam. Translates to roughly 330hp/385tq at the flywheel.

    Thanks!!

I've found that no amount of tuning can fully compensate for the stock cams desire to start signing off at 5k. It will pull to 5500 (dyno cutoff) fairly cleanly, by 56-5700 it's DONE.

What you need to do is retard your cam 3-4 degrees

That will move your torque number up yielding more horsepower. It will give you the additional RPM you need to break 300 most likely

Prostock combos would spin the stock cams past 8000, fyi

Also that intake may hurt you up top. If the upper is the Lightning version, the runners are too long to get the rpm you need also. A composite box intake is probably your best bet

Go Royal purple lube in the trans and rear ended too if you’re looking for a 300 wheel HP pull

Or hell - just ice the intake before the next pull and run it in the fall and see what it does

RP is already in the trans, 5w-30 Valvoline Syn Blend in the engine. Synthetic in the rear end as well. I think the cam is holding me back in upper RPM power more than the intake at this point, the intake should pull well to 55-5700.

Contemplating installing the AFR's this winter, minus the custom cam.

Good point on retarding the cam, it's something I've contemplated as well. It would be cool to hit 300whp with stock P heads and stock cam.

The GT40 tubular will stay on regardless. I love how they look and the mid range torque is stellar.

Icing the intake might yield a few if the dyno operator allowed it.

I'm also toying with the idea of adding a flex fuel sensor and blending in some E85. The 30lb injectors and 190lph fuel pump are more than enough with my current combo, could run up to E30-50ish and pick up a few more hp. I ALWAYS run E10 gasoline as it is, 92-93 octane.

    Great numbers!

If the AFR on the graph is correct, maybe richen it up another 1/2 point through the middle to the top end. 13+ is still conservative, no?
