    Default Battery tray?

Will a battery tray from 87-93 work in an 86? Ford dealer can't get the 56 series battery and my next option is for a 58 series from the 87-93 cars.

I recently bought a group 56 so they are available.
Try a local place that is a real battery shop.

Was trying for a Motorcraft brand, is that what you have?

I think Motorcraft has a replacement. 63 maybe?

Oriellys lists Motorcraft BXT -65 as available.

    Correction:
Ford Parts book list group 65 for 80-89 mustangs. Except for a few 80-82 with a smaller battery.
Replacement would be BX-63 at 650 CCA.

Current replacements are BXL-65 and BXT-65 (850 CCA)

Well, the 87-93 tray does fit with no issues, also went with 58 series Motorcraft.

watch how you mount the battery

Positive terminal is supposed to go closer to the solenoid. That way if you crumple the hood in a wreck it hopefully doesn't dead short the battery.

Long story on what I was doing with stereo stuff and squeezing big batteries into my 86GT back in the 90's but I made that mistake once and my hold down was loose. Every time I hit a bump, sparks would fly. Pure genius -- I know ......

    Good luck
