    Default Oil pickup help

I have an engine out of a 96 Explorer that will be going into my 83. I had originally intended to put this engine into a Falcon I had, but that car is gone. I had changed the oil pan out to a front sump to fit into the Falcon. I have bought a pan to fit the 83 fox, but now I need an oil pickup. Problem is, if you go to Auto Zone (which is where I would be buying my pickup tube), they have a ton of pickup options ranging from $10-$100. Not sure which one I should go with.

If it's a stock style, stock sized, stock stamped steel pan, just get a basic replacement. They were the same from 83-93 5.0 mustang. Assuming you did buy a stock 5.0 fox body oil pan.
    Like this.
Looked it up for an 85 5.0ustang.

Bought a Ford Racing M-6675-A50 oil pan, that was listed for 79-95 Mustang 5.0

If had it to do over again, I would spend more on my pan and windage tray combo. Something that works a bit better than stock.

Many times a pan has a recommended pickup tube. Contact the seller of that pan and ask them which they recommend.
I have not looked it up, but if it is a stock type replacement, 5 qt pan, it should be fine.
Just be sure to clay it for distance off the pan bottom.
Just looked up that pan and the part number you wrote comes with a pickup. If yours didn't, it looks like the one I linked should work. Just check that pickup to pan floor distance.

What kind of clearance should I have between the pickup and the inside of the pan?

Oh gosh. Should find that online but IIRC it's 1/4-1/2 inch maybe?
Close enough not to starve, but high enough it doesn't try to suck to the pan bottom
