Thread: Interior Paint

    Default Interior Paint

Has anyone used any of the LMR interior paint on vinyl or soft plastic. I have a red OEM steering wheel in an 83 that the color is wearing off in places. the car is not going to be a daily driver but with the steering wheel being such a high touch surface, I am worried about durability. I don't want it to be sticky or start flaking off and look worse than it currently does.

I had used some of the LMR interior paint in the past and was not overally impressed nor happy with it. That was several years ago now. I have heard they changed suppliers or at least made a change and it is better than before, but I can't guarantee that.

Colorbond is my go to for interior paint, but unfortunately matching it to our four eyes can be an issue or at least a challenge. The interior paint from NPD was good quality and a decent match when I have used it in the past. Good Luck!

Thanks for the response Trey. I think NPD has SEM products. I have read on other automotive boards that folks have good luck with SEM products as long as they get the surface good and clean before application. As someone on the other threads pointed out, almost every surface in a car has at one point or another had Armor All applied. And Armor All is tough stuff to get off. Clean, clean and clean some more. When you think it is clean, clean it a couple more times.

I have the blue interior in my 1979 mustang.
Does anyone know where to find the matching SEM paint number?
    Thanks.

O wait, I saw on the NPD website this :
Interior Paint, Spray, Low Luster, 1979-1982 Medium Wedgewood Blue, Multi Purpose Sem Paint Can Bond At A Molecular Level When Surface Is Properly Prepped, For Use On Metal, Plastics And Vinyl

    Item # LP-4117

Think I have an issue getting that to Europe.
Hope to find a local seller.

I have a sheet with the SEM numbers but it's quite old. SEM no longer sells the old number paints. You can try matching up new colors with your old piece. The other option is NPD. SEM paints hold up very well.
