180 - 195 degrees will work fine. Not sure hwre you are but I tend to run 180 in the south.

I find 195 is great for me but I am in New York and I have cfi. If I were you, I would pop in a oil temp gauge (I use a super simple drain plug version that works great) and tune my thermostat to whatever keeps the car in the good zone. To me that means I hit 210 on normal everyday drives, up into the 230s and higher when pushing it hard, and doesn't muck around for very long below 200.

If you don't get the oil up to 210ish you build up crap in the oil that will damage your engine, go much over 250 and things are probably getting too hot in spots. I use 0w40 mobile 1 which is good upt to 350 but many lesser oils fall apart as low as 260

Anything from 180-195 will work great.
Even in a hot environment. As long as your cooling system is functioning well.

Stock was 195 in my '85. I'm near certain it was the same in '83.

    It was.
I built my .040 over 302 stoutish and use a 195° T-Stat. Radiator works great as do the fans so my temp stays between 190-205 all the time. Runs great...

Ford put a 190 degree in the mid-90's F250 and F350 HD with 460. It is a high flow piece and Motorcraft so it is an outstanding part. Works great in our foxes. We run them in several foxes as well as in our 96 F250.

    Part number is
    RT-1067-A
