Default ID sport steering wheel and center cap question

I picked up this steering wheel the other day. I'm guessing it is from a 74-78. Style and size is identical to my 79 wheels, but it's chrome and has an integrated horn.

Can anyone confirm this is what I have? I'm also thinking the spline is same as early fox?

Unfortunately, it didn't include the horn button. I have another fox sport wheel that's missing the center cap. I know these are hard to find, but I'm curious if anyone has successfully adapted an aftermarket cap of some sort.

Since it has the horn contacts it is not out of a fox. That style sport wheel came on the Pinto's, Bobcats, Mustang II's, F series trucks etc. The splines are the same for all the wheels. I have a fox wheel from a Fairmont in my dad's Pinto. Your wheel looks like it is a leather wrapped one instead of the regular foam that most had. That is quite rare. Never seen one in a Mustang II or Pinto but I had a Mercury Bobcat with one. I got $250 for it about 5 years ago.

Back in the day, the horn buttons were hard to find in good shape used. Most have pieces missing near the fake rivets. You have to look close as it is easy to miss. Now I see someone has reproduced them. Not sure on the quality but they look good in the pictures. Not sure how many emblem options that have either but there are 3 different ones if I remember correctly. Hope this helps some.

    Great info! Thanks!

Can you tell me who is producing the horn buttons?

Yes, this is the one! Glad to confirm that it will work on my 79-82. I just need to source a horn button/ center cap. The chrome (polished?) spokes on mine are pretty rough, but I can just paint them black.

Yes that is the one, although that is the truck wheel center. I actually prefer that one over the other two. I do not remember which center came with the foxbodies.

Most of the wheels are bushed aluminum. If yours is not super pitted you may get by with some steel wool or maybe some emery cloth going in the same direction as the grain. The wheel in my dad's 79 Pinto is from a Fairmont. It came painted black with a black wheel center. I think it came of a ESS if I remember. You can paint the spokes black and it will look good. I ended up stripping mine because it had scratches but I kept the black wheel center.

The only thing I am not sure of is if the horn contacts from that wheel will interfere with something in the fox steering column. I have never tried that swap as my foxes are later cars. You might want to be sure of fitment before you spend coin on a horn center.
