We're gonna do it here in a couple weeks or so. He is doing the body work on his (67?) Cougar and wants to finish his doors first.
I think they will be a HUGE difference. My driveway is sloped and angled to the carport. A couple weeks ago I pushed the car part way out. On flat ground the rear fenders are about midway down the sidewall. That slight uneven ground made it almost an inch different side to side due to body twist (front half slightly up and tilted). I know when I put them in my '83 hatch it was very noticeable. Quieter. Less creaks.
Even though this was a factory 4-cyl/4-spd the floorpan is slightly torn at the driver seat mounts. The previous owner was in the heavy side I admit...

All Foxes benefit from SFCs. I made up my own on the Z7 I had a while back, and it for sure made a difference.

I need to get a set under my LTS here in the near future.

I've actually cracked a windshield in a Fox ('84 XR-7) that had susp work done on it and no SFCs. I went through an angled intersection and rolled over some rough stuff in the road. I felt the car twist and heard a *POP*. Found it when I was getting back into the car later.

Well after fighting with a hanging idle issue since June I finally figured it out. And after performing a base Idle rest, performing a vacuum test, and trying a IAC adjuster plate it turns out it was my IAC was worn out. Replaced it yesterday and boom problem fixed

After 3 straight full days of fabricating/wiring/plumbing, finally finished up my custom fuel hat and installed it and got the car back together. Car idles better now, fuel pressure is rock solid. No fluctuation. Gas gauge works. No leaks yet. Very happy so far.

Since getting the car on the road this spring I’ve rolled 4,000 miles, a few donuts, and just overall a good time enjoying things I haven’t been able to enjoy in roughly 8 years, since my sub arachnoid hemorrhage and stroke and subsequent loss off my vision. Something I haven’t mentioned until now. I can see through the inner half of my left eye but that’s it. I never thought I’d be driving again let alone having fun doin it. So today I thought I’d vacuum and wash the old girl before the weather calls for it to be put away.
is there a reason I can’t post pics?

It's because this forum itself is built on code that's just about as old as the "4 Eye" cars....Ancient!

I recommend using a 3rd party site such as imgur.com and then just posting the links.

Time of the year again here when leaves are starting to fall.
Covered the cowl grill with a nylon windshield cover and magnets. Tuck top edge under the wipers.
Leaves get trapped down in there and under moldings, stay wet, collect dirt, then try to start rust.

    Bucked 10/03/78

Shipped early morning 10/15/78 about 16 miles to DSO 48 dealer.
Driven at least once a week. Reliable, est around 367k on it.
Pretty confident it will make 400 with regular maintenance and nothing major.

Ordered some new oil drain plugs, a random trim piece for the door locks, some new floor mats, and a fender 'access plug' for under the hood.

While I wait for that. I started polishing some small test spots by hand. I may pick up a proper piece of equipment and do this in the garage over the winter - it's going to need some TLC, but it'll be worth it.

Oh...and I took it for a drive. Beautiful October day and it ran great.

My Zephyr has been sitting since late 2017 when I got a job and moved out of state. I stashed the car at my friends property but it sat outside and things got ugly. I know I posted these photos in other places on the forum but one update post will be nice. I got my car back in early June of 2022 and this is how it looked when I picked up it

The carpet, door panels, seat belts, and seats were covered in mold/mildew. The car wouldn't idle at all but it would start up and drive if you kept your foot in it. The brakes were awful too. The biggest issue once I tore the interior out was the drovers floor pan, though.

Both sides looked bad, but the drivers pan had holes up near the firewall and the rear seat bracket stud was basically falling through the floor. I ordered a new drivers side pan and replaced it. I also had to make some patches for the passenger side and under the backseat but got it all done and cleaned up. I'm no professional but did my best and it turned out better than I expected for my first time welding in a floor pan with a cheap welder.

Once I got that done I installed new carpet, deep cleaned my seats and door panels and cleaned up my roof and painted it (no headlinder yet). When we moved into our house I found all my bins of stuff I bought for my Zephyr. I had some B Springs I bought like 10 years ago, I have a 140mph Ford Motorsport Speedometer, wiring harnesses, Camber Plates, etc. I decided it was time to finally install the B springs and camber plates. In the process of doing that I found that I had one broken spring and a ball joint that didnt stay pressed in one of my control arms so I replaced both front control arms and added a bump-steer kit. Heres how the car sits now after all that on the front end. Still need to install new rack bushings and inner tie rods but we're getting there.

Also, I went to my local Pick n Pull because they listed a Fairmont in stock. Low and behold I finally found the smooth bumpers I had been looking for. I got them all cleaned up as best I could and popped them on.

That's where I'm at now. I've cleaned out the carb and got it tuned back to where it should be, so it's running and driving well now. Need to lower the rear just a hair and still have brake problems but as of right now it's drivable and can be cleaned up pretty well! Been happy with my progress and excited to get my Cougar and Grand Wagoneer back into shape as well.

Going to a buddy's house tomorrow morning to weld in the SFCs. . Just gotta get those dumb seat bolt/studs out.
That is basically the rest of everything I need help with. I will probably add jacking rails, but think I will give welding a shot myself for them. With some scrap practice first of course.

Cancelled. He got a fever last night. And I am still fighting two of the seat mount studs. Going to roll the carpet back on to the back seat hopefully today, get those studs out, and be ready when he is ready.

    Default black trim repaint

Repainted both door mirrors, sail panels, and trim moldings Monday.
This time went with Rustoleum 2x #331182 Ultra Matte Black.
Happy with color, sheen, coverage. Matches the usual 'official' trim black and costs less..
Time will tell how durable. No big deal. All get refreshed as needed.

Picked out fallen leaves wedged in the trim yesterday.
They were damp so did not break up into bits as usual.
Even though cowl grill is covered when parked, a few get down in there.

Reconnected power to VDO volt gauge bulb. Spade connector worked loose.

Worked on pace car #2 the last couple days. Had to yank the axles in the 8.8 I recently installed so I could slap some backing plates on there. Today, I built the rear brake shoe assemblies. I never get used to doing shoes. They're just terrible.

I have a new rear axle brake hard line set on the way. I might get under there and route the hard line to the new rear hose location. I don't exactly recall how I did it on the other pace car, but I do remember it wasn't a bad job.

SFCs welded in! Took a test drive and could feel the difference! Which I expected...
Took us about 5 hours start to finish. Since the car is a 4-foor it took a bit more work, but I gotta say it looks like Stifflers makes a nice SFC.
Welded in some different spots, but they fit remarkably well. Nothing a hammer, some pressure, some cutting/grinding didn't solve. On the car that is, to make them fit well.

On the passenger side the trans ctrossmember mounting is cut out. We welded to the SFC for strength.
On the driver's side we had to cut the ends of the mount to get the SFC to sit more flush to the subframe. Thankfully my friend has so e experience in this area. And a lift.

    Nice! I still need SFCs.
Is your car mustang wheelbase, or is it longer like a Fairmont/Zephyr? I like my stifflers trans x member and driveshaft loop, they make good stuff. If their SFCs would fit my car i would def buy some.
    thanks!

It is a Granada 4-door, so a slightly longer wheelbase, I'd guess like the Fairmont/Zephyr.
Not as much contact as the rear portion of a mustang because the 4-d wheelbase is about 4 1/2"(?) longer, mainly between the subframes.
I plan to also install jacking rails, maybe next spring?
Maybe I will take pics tomorrow (should have done that when it was on the lift I suppose). I know some recommend a plate on the rear portion for more weld, but I think what my friend and I did will work fine. Can always add a plate later.
I also have the Stifflers trans crossmember, but need to install the 5-spd tranny hump on the tunnel. At present my trans sits about 1" or a bit more low because it hit the floorpan. Used a Chevy mount and a couple spacers instead of a Ford mount. For now
