Removed the thick steering wheel slip on cover.
Lace on leather wrap under it is in great shape added over the factory leather wheel back in 2001.

Drove to Woodward Ave shaded car cruiser watching spot friday and sat 7-10p.
    90's Hot and humid weather.
The 20 mile drive there is a hot back sweating one, even with windows down on xway.
Engine oil level is still full after 900 miles since repair.
Car coolant temp stays at low end of NORMAL on gauge as always.

Did notice Friday nite, after arriving home, a faint and familiar smell plus heat in the RR wheel well.
Low on diff fluid? Hot pig? No leaks visible.
Next day Saturday exited eway near WW after 20 miles, pulled into a parking lot, shut down.
Took an IR reading of wheels and diff cover temp.
Diff cover was 125F, three wheels were around 100F, RR 125F
So figure its not hot gear oil but a dragging brake shoe and poss another wheel cyl.
Forgot hot brakes have sort of similar pungent smell as gear oil.

Totally enjoying driving the car again almost daily and am sure packing on the miles.
Sight seeing changing scenery and attending events in other parts of town missed last few years.

Missing out today on an annual all day cruise event and car show in the still good old neighborhood.
Sit with friends and party a bit. Lots of cars, Good chance may see someone haven't seen in a while.
About a 40 mile drive to get there. A hot drive, no let up once there sitting in the soup.
Then load up and head home. House A/C, fans, off all day was not comfortable all night. A/C is on high today.
Weather front with soaking 20 minute rain out there 5p will abruptly and prematurely end the event as usual.

When I bought this car it had a hood scoop from a '69 - '70 Mach 1 on it, and it ended up sailing into a ditch while doing some highway driving, so I put allen head bolts into the holes, and they rusted out, so I decided to just get another scoop. It was cheap enough.

Didn't have any matching paint, so I just went black. Kinda matches the louvers. Looks alright, I think.

Started laying layers of primer on the roof so I can sand it smoothish. Sanded off all the rust yesterday. I had rattle cans mixed and charged using the paint code a couple years ago. I did the trunk lid last year and need to get the roof done. It won't be perfect, but at least the rust will be stopped. And the color will be close.
The hood has a bit of patina, but I may well leave it alone.
Maybe someday I will afford a paint job for real.

    Update:
Well, a lot better. I didn't sand/full/smooth fully because my intent was to look 'decent' and stop the rust. Now the roof is almost the same color as the car (thanks to 40 years of fade from the original paint code) and rust free. Not bad for rattle cans charged with paint a couple years ago!
Not to mention doing it under a carport with little to no control over wind/dust/etc.

Drove to Woodward Cruise spot several times last week, Dearborn Memories show on Sunday.
Noticed right side of hood scoop would flutter a bit from random airflow on x-way or bumpy roads.
Found loose front scoop stud mount flange nut. Added lockwasher, retightened. Scoop is tight again.

There are two studs on each side and two in the middle of scoop.
Front studs keep air blasts from ripping it off. Rear studs help keep it secure to hood.

Was a priority repair because the right rear hood scoop stud boss is stripped. Needs repair. Stud and nut are gone.
I guess the front stud was doing extra work, causing the nut to back off quite a bit.

Thanks! And no more rust rivers staining the back window when I drive off in the AM. It's not great, but it is rust free and red.

Washed it again. Cars and coffee tomorrow morning in Creswell. 0730-0900 at the Bi-Mart.
Sunday we are taking the super back road way (Smith River Road) to the coast (Reedsport), then up 101 and probably home through one of the other small towns (maybe Waldport). Should be a fun day on the rural two lanes as well as a long the ocean!

About 60 cars at the deal yesterday. Everything from an Audi R8 to a rusty old soon to be rat rod. Mine was the only Fox, but that's not shocking.

I tried to drive it to town, but a guy rear ended us. Thankfully low speed. Now I gotta find a pair of taillights!

Ouch! That is my worst fear. Taillights for these cars are hard to find! Hope no one was hurt and good luck!

After having them in the garage for about 5 years, I finally got around to installing a hood lift kit. It works pretty well, but I may need to get stronger struts since the added weight of the Pace Car scoop. Once I lift the hood about half-way, the struts take over and open it all of the way up. The hood goes up higher the normal prop height, but not as far as when I place the prop in the first slot on the side of the hood. I am still happy with the results and wish I had installed it sooner.

Finally had time adjust the clutch properly. The cable lost its C-clip at the bell housing and I'm surprised it hadn't fallen out of the fork the last time I drove
    it.

On a semi-related topic, I installed a CDC styling bar on my 2017 convertible last weekend as well. Nice addition.

Have an appointment with a dyno this morning at 10am for a couple baseline pulls before heads/cam swap this winter. Hoping to see about 260rwhp and close to 300rwtq.

Just got back from the dyno, really happy with the results. Made 276/318 to the tires. Not bad for a 98' Explorer motor (170k miles on it, heads never been pulled) with stock Mustang cam and 1.7RR's.

Very nice. Just curious if you have other mods. Bigger tb? Maf? Is this with the explorer intake? I'm really just wondering what your thoughts are in getting it above the magic 300hp point....with or without porting heads and/or intake.

    Combo:
98' Explorer Motor, 170k miles on it. Heads have never been pulled.
Stock Mustang cam, installed straight up. 1.7 Crane RR's
Explorer lower intake, ported by me. GT40 Tubular upper w/70mm Accufab
    Stock air box w/K&N
FRPP Shorties, O/R H-pipe, Flowmaster Catback
    Underdrive pullies w/electric fan
30lb injectors and 190lph Fuel pump
Stinger Performance PimpXS Tuned by me

I think I can exceed 280 with a few tweaks to the tune. A different intake tube/airbox might yield a couple HP. I don't think 300 is achievable without engine mods.

There's a new set of AFR165's (1472's) sitting in my spare bedroom, purchased them in April. This was a pre-head/cam swap baseline pull so I knew what the AFR's/Cam gains were.

After seeing these numbers (SAE, btw) it's tempting to make a few minor tweaks to the current setup and see how close I can get to 300rwhp with stock/untouched 'P' heads and stock SD cam.

Gave the car a quick bath, to no avail. It's been snowing ash from the Cedar Creek fire for the last few hours.

No, that is my 'patina' hood and front fenders.
Roof paint seems to be doing fine. I only had a little paint and the roof was far worse off.

Right now it kinda sucks up here with all the smoke and ash, but at least we're safe.

Going to friend's house this morning to mock up the SFCs. With the slightly longer 4-door wheelbase I expect I may need to snag a few pieces of scrap before they get welded in.
    I will know soon enough.

Did some data logging for the remote PimpX tune, replaced the broken cigarette lighter so I can charge my phone, and replaced the driver's side inner dew wipe. The dew wipe was a pain, but it is done. Started pouring so the passenger side will be next weekend.
