    Default Engine Color

    What was the first year for the grey V8 engine color in the fox body cars. I did a search but could not find it. thanks Kendal

    What I have seen is 1982 year model was the change over year from Ford Blue. There seems to be some disagreement as to actually when Ford started using the grey, but then you also have year models or at least specific vehicles that engine block was left raw with no paint. Not really a definitive answer, but another one of those things that Ford didn't seem to have a solid consistent methodology.

    not that I KNOw but thought 1982 was the yearchnage over also

    I can confirm that the engine block in my 82 (2 owner original) RS was in fact the Ford Grey. The engine block in my buddies 86 SSP was bare and that was supposedly all original also. Other than that, I have no idea.

    hard to go wrong with cast paint. It will look like it was freshly cast and is bare for years and years to come.

    The 82 GT I bought new had a non painted block, it was an early 82 build. Perhaps later 82’s & up we’re gray.
