The build began 15 years ago and it's been a bumpy ride to get where I am now, but its been worth it. I started a build thread on this site about it back then, feel free to check it out, it may help bring you up to speed to where this thread is going to begin. It was originally EFI and I got it running and then life reared its ugly head on me. Work on this car came to a halt 12 years ago because I got some things thrown at me that were pretty tough to deal with. I lost my job of 12 years, I lost my best friend of 25 years, he was only 42, and I lost my mother. However, I did manage to restore two other vehicles while this poor car sat under a plastic sheet.

I finally said it's time to finish this and make it exactly the Capri I always wanted. Simplicity and reliability is what I wanted, so in my book carb was the way to go. I know some will not like that decision, but I'm thinking there will be several who will be ok with it. I wanted an uncluttered engine bay, simple wiring harnesses and room to work on things when needed.

Installed the Edelbrock RPM Air Gap intake with a 650cfm Carb.


The Performance Automatics Pro Comp C4 Reverse manual valvebody transmission came with a filler tube... but it came up right under the heater hoses on the firewall... useless. So I made my own and is actually better, mostly because I brought it up in a very accessible spot.

Black Magic fan and 3 core radiator installed.

Eibach Progressive rate lowering springs with urethane isolators, fully adjustable upper and lower tubular control arms with spherical ends.

Removed the weathered quarter windows, cleaned/prepped the surface.

FYI: You really have to watch installing this glass and their trim pieces or you WILL have a leak. Notice there is an inner AND outer sheet skin that meet at this opening. If this meeting point isn't sealed before installation of the outer trim ring, water will pour in... this is because the glass is sealed only to the inner skin surface. It was a poor design that Ford corrected with the Aero glass.

Taped off the area that needs sealed and will be covered by the trim ring. Going to spread some seam sealer around the perimeter, let it set p, put the trim on and install the glass.

New glass tinted 5%, freshly painted trim ring and sail panel installed.

I dug through my epic stash of Capri parts and picked out the two best front wheel liners I own. Cleaned them up and sprayed them with Duplicolor bed liner. Over my years of trying different coatings, this is the best looking and most durable finish I've found for this kind of application.

Cleaned up the stock seat tracks, painted them, re-lubed them and mounted them on a new set of Hunsaker seats.






Welded in a support piece to add a little extra strength.

Looking good...makes me want to build another one! Yeah the 1/4 windows can be a leaker, mine got weld spatter on them from the roll cage install so I replaced them with lexan...which leaks...I solved the problem by not driving in the rain...or getting the car dirty! Just dry wash...much easier

Since I tossed the EFI in favor of a carb I removed the entire engine harness and designed my own, (more on that later). As for the dash harness, I opened it all up, removed anything no longer needed, organized it, lengthened it in some areas for ease of installation, tape and loomed it, and tucked it neatly back in the dash hull.


I cleaned all the heater ducts and replaced the original dried out foam with brand new supple foam.


I took the time to apply some black RTV on all the seams where the "clamshell" pieces come together. It was apparent after looking at how large some of the gaps were, that a decent amount of the air intended to come out the vents was escaping... and just blowing around behind the dash unnecessarily heating up the wires and switches. Plus I was shocked how much it increased the airflow out of all the vents, I recommend you do this if you ever have your dash out.
