    Default 4R75e to 302

    Found a few cheap transmissions online for my 79. What would it take to make a 4R75e work w my carbureted 302?

    What were they bolted to? A mod motor? I know that the 4r70w will bolt up and work with a 302 if it came from a v6 (same bolt pattern as 302/351w). They are plenty strong enough, but there are a few cheap upgrades to make them better. You don't need any expensive specialty tools to work on them. You will either need a stand-alone controller or a manual valve body kit. They actually make a kit that uses the stock valve body to make it a fully manual deal. Your overdrive will be on a separate switch. Last I checked, the controller, harness, and throttle position sensor was around a grand. The mvb kit was $275ish. Transmissions from a v6 mustang were(are?) a dime a dozen. Upgraded clutches weren't too spendy...maybe $150ish for the red clutches?

    I've been considering this route if I ever get around to building my 82gt. I have a transmission already but I'm not sure it's any good. I paid $75 for it a few yrs ago. The guy said it was from a running car but I think it may have had some water in it.

    Found a combo w the 4.6 V8 but I don't need the engine... Was just curious of it was possible and what I would need. I'm just trying to get my car on the road.

    The 4.6 bolt pattern won't work with a 302.
