Default ID Tranny, '85 LTD waggy

Just brought an '85 LTD home.

I have a 50 y/o rig (manual) and can name a few transmissions when seen. This is 35 y/o so I don't see many of them. It has a bad leak, looks like the frnt or back of the pump/. The prts guy came up w/more than 1. I thought at this point they were all C-5 but it showed a C-3 too?

How do I tell what it is from below ona lift?
    Thank you,
    - -Da New Guy

I heard a 4.2 head will pep it up.
    Any yeas? more 'dont bother's?

Got the C5 parts (2 seals, frnt pump gasket, pan gasket)
Pan gasket told the story, lucky - the pump gasket fits both - - I gota C4. Good.
Single pump gasket fixed it, screen was clean frm OP's g a l l o n s of atf pour in.
Took off Y pipe stubs for easier instal. Topped off w/ 10 qts dexteron. No more leak.

Still starts/idles/runs fine. A lill rough till upta temp (1st 3 min). Never hada CFI B4. What sensor, vac line, etc might it be?

On to exhaust. Need manifold to tail pipe. Any idea if there's a cat-less Y for this. I imagine it takes 2 (the OP seems to have cut them off for selling (two 5 inch stubs all thats left) and pretty expensive~

I'm pretty sure the C4 and C5 use the same pan gasket. Unless somebody installed a C4 down the road your car should have a C5.
