Thread: Injector issue?

  1. #1

    Default Injector issue?

I've been trying to get my 1984 Mercury Capri running and have replaced a majority of the fuel system but I am running into an issue with my injectors ( i think). Fuel is getting to the rail and there is power going to the injector plugs BUT it does not run, it will crank and start to fire but will not run. We have tried spraying fuel into the intake and that allows it to run as long as we are spraying but as soon as it burns up it shuts off.

(fuel tank / tank pump / Inline pump / Fuel injectors / Pressure regulator ( off the fuel rail) / spark plugs / Distributer and TFI are all new)

    Looking for any suggestions, thanks!

What are the details on the car and why it wasn't running to begin with?

Eric Derr Injector Service refreshed a set of 42# injectors for me. Drop him a line at derrmain@twc.com

If it's been sitting, the injectors *could* be stuck/clogged.

Again, not knowing all of the details makes it hit and miss on what the cause might be.

84 could be a couple of choices.
    5.0 auto with cfi
    2.3 turbo and svo.

    I don't think the 3.8 had cfi in 84.

Sounds like no fuel. Same thing happened to me when the secondary pump went bad. What is the pressure at the fuel rail?

Posted details below - Also I've tried 2 sets of injectors, one set was salvaged from a pull yard and the current set is brand new.

To be specific its the Charcoal Turbo RS 2.3.

I don't have a tester but I'll probably grab one tomorrow. I definitely figured it was fuel but with a majority of the fuel system replaced I'm stumped on what the issue could be

Have had bad fuel pump relays cause no starts. They wear out or come loose in socket.

Do the injectors fire when you apply power directly to them (with the connector removed)? If you have new injectors, I assume they will.

You have fuel at the rail, but have you checked pressure?

If the pumps prime with the key and then build pressure, then the relay and even the inertia switch should be OK. The ECU grounds the injectors. How are all of your grounds? Are they all connected? There is a large bundle of sensor grounds that are in the harness near the ECU.

Just tested it today, pressure is right around 32 going into the rail.
