    Default 84 lx hatch swap

Hey guys I have an 84 LX and I have a hatch from what I believe is a 87+ lx. I swapped it over but no matter what adjustments I make with the 2 Mount bolts the hatch won’t latch. I removed the latch mechanism from 84 hatch and swapped that over but I still have the same outcome. Any ideas what could be up?

First thing to remember is the 81-86 use the same striker bolt, the 87-91 use a different striker bolt. I would highly recommend getting the correct striker bolt to start with. That will improve the latching. For lining up, remove the striker bolt and thread in the bumpers all the way, then remove the hatch struts. Lower the hatch in place and adjust the two hinge bolts until the hatch is aligned as best as you can. Now adjust the rear bumpers down until you get an even level across the back above the taillights. Now install the striker bolt and adjust until it shuts with a moderate push down and it doesn't pull the hatch one direction or the other. Once all of that is done, re-install the hatch struts and recheck your work. You shouldn't have to adjust anything, but occasionally you might need to tweak the striker bolt. Good Luck!

So I originally swapped in the latch from the 84 but what was happening is the striker has a big washer that isn’t removable. Well the washer was hitting the two bolts on the latch assembly causing it to not close. I ended up swapping back in the latch assembly from the 87+ and everything works find now as that one doesn’t have bolts in the latch assembly just smooth rivets
