    Default 3.8L engine number location please?

    Gday to all.
    Not new to this site but haven't been here for yonks!

    Sorry but been real busy.

    I am in Australia, I imported an 85 LX 3.8 convertible in 2014.

    FINALLY got it out of storage a couple of months ago and preparing for a roadworthy.

    OK, so if you are still with me, my question is regarding engine number:

    Where is the number located on the 3.8 ?

    To pass a roadworthy I must be able to show the inspector the engine number.
    I see a decal on the valve cover with a number but surely there is something somewhere on the block?

    They won't accept a valve cover decal [because you could just swap valve covers engine to engine].

    Can anyone help please?

    Many thanks

    Cheers
    Gary
    Regards

    Note well. A September 1985 car MIGHT be an 86 like Mikes

    http://vb.foureyedpride.com/showthre...d-thread/page1

    Stamped at the Back of block, just like the 5.0 for 68-71 302 XT, XW,XY's and all 5.0 1991-2002 EB-AU Falcons.

    see a 1994 3.8 liter V6 sn95 Mustang

    A 1983 example is:-

    If you use the beginning of your 83's vin with the end of the engine vin with the engine Vin code number 3,( so 1FABP2738DF176321) the Ford Fleet decoder works

    1FABP2738DF176321

    https://www.fleet.ford.com/maintenance/vin-decoder/

    That tells you if its a valid VIN. You then a Carfax like I did, and it will give you the historic mileage readings while it was in the USA.

    Then use Mikes decoder here

    http://vb.foureyedpride.com/showthre...33-VIN-Decoder

    www.foxchassis.com/decoders/vin/fep

    VIN
    1FA = Ford vehicle manufactured in USA
    B = active belts, no airbags
    P = passenger car
    27 = Mustang 2-dr convertible
    3 = 3.8L V6 engine
    8 = VIN check digit
    D = 1983 model year
    F = Dearborn Assembly
    199999 = 99,999th 1983 Ford scheduled for production at Dearborn Assembly (Pauli style Hypermathimatically)

    see a worked example here from Mic and troyw1970

    http://vb.foureyedpride.com/showthre...uck-tag-decode

    Here is a buck tag. It will have your Southgate Dealers Milwaukee DSO code and the Canyon Red paint code on it.

    You can form the engine VIN from it

    http://vb.foureyedpride.com/showthre...uple-questions

    Here is the Buck Tag

    And the VIN - 1FABP2738FF214018

    FoxChassis has no V6 3.8 Engine rocker cover tags for 1985 3.8's, but an 84 will be

    3.8L EK536BA
    3.8L XK536AA (CA emissions)
    3.8L XK536BA (CA emissions)
