Thread: Newb Question

    Default Newb Question

    Hello
I have a 79 Zephyr with no AC.
The heater core has 2 tubes sticking out of the firewall.
    My question is-
Which tube is the inlet, and which tube is the outlet?
Does 1 of the tubes go to the right, or the left? (Looking at the firewall)
Could I flip the heater core over to swap the tubes’ location if necessary?
    Thanks!
Trying to route my coolant lines

I wouldn't be surprised if you could flip it, seeing as how the tubes are in the middle of the heater core on the non-AC ones. I guess I wouldn't think it would matter either which way the coolant flows through it, come to think of it. Don't take my word for it though...

Thanks for the speedy response! I’ll try and look at some online pics and see if I can figure it out.
I read that there is supposed to be a restrictor in one of the hoses?

So according to this video, the larger 3/4” hose is the supply, and takes the restrictor. Smaller 5/8” hose is the return.
I might be able to flip it, need to double check that.

Just in case someone else has the same question.

I can't remember which is in/out. I was thinking they were slightly different sizes. I couldn't imagine it would make a difference which direction the flow was going.

    Just to update this thread-

I was able to flip the heater core over and move the larger (inlet) side over to the outboard side.
Had to trim the rubber gasket some to allow the heater core to properly seat in the heater box correctly.
The stock gasket is offset towards the drivers side and the bottom.
Some light trimming in the right places worked.
I needed to do this because of my modular engine.
