    Default AC Clutch Wiring

I figured I'd start a new post as this one isn't a mystery wire thread. The wiring for the AC clutch on my car has been hacked up and spliced to the point that it immediately blows the fuse when turned on. The diode is gone as well. I'm hoping someone might have a picture of the wiring for the AC clutch from connector at the compressor to the body harness. The Black/Yellow Hash wire ends in the gray 8 pot connector into the body harness, and the black wire ends into a 2 black wire into a single pot connector at the body harness. What happens in between is pretty much a mystery as of now due to the way the harness has been mangled.

I ordered a replacement clutch connector harness for the 86 - 93 cars from NPD in hopes that I can cut the tail and and hook it into my new harness.

Please post a picture of the 85 harness if you have it. Thanks in advance!

How did you make out? I'm doing the same thing as far as ordering that harness and planning on cutting the one end off to use it on an 85. My car was missing the diode also.

I haven't done the wiring yet, but the harness looks like it will work. The configuration with the diode looks solid. I plan to cut the end off and tire the wires into their respective factory plugs. I don't see a reason it shouldn't work.

Where was the factory diode in the wiring harness? I have an 83 Turbo 2.3 that I added a factory A/C system to. The factory A/C wiring for the compressor and the pressure switch was in the car already but it was built as a non-AC car. I've not seen a diode anywhere in my inspection but I'm not sure I would see it if it's buried in a wiring harness somewhere

I did it. Cut the plug off, wired the yellow wire to the hot coming from low cycle switch and black to what goes to ground. Seems like it works but now I have to work through getting the system properly charged. Clutch is cycling.

I remember it being yellow and kind of rubbery. Was with the harness coming from drivers shock tower area near valve cover.

Nice! Good to hear it worked out how I was hoping/expecting. I'm not there yet. I just got my car back from getting the new floors in.

The diode should be just upstream from the plug in to the clutch. One wire from the plug should go into the diode and 2 wires come out of the diode. The other wire from the plug should go to a ground connector along with one of the wires coming out of the diode. That's the setup for an 85 GT anyway.

Thanks - yup now I see that in my harness too! Cool deal!

I was lucky enough to have a someone connect it to an AC machine. They sucked it down to 30" and it held and then recharged with correct amount of R134A. Blows cold with no more clutch cycling and pressures looked good, 220ish high and 35 low.
