My bad. I had to go check the shop manual to verify. The bowl vent is plumbed to the canister purge solenoid, which in my 1985 is normally closed when the engine is running. That closes the bowl vent when running. The bowl is vented though, that is those tall tubes that stick up from the body inside the air cleaner area. The rectangular holes in the metering plates are the passages to the bowls. So, you can plug the bowl vents with no change to performance. However, if you park the car in an attached garage, and you don’t have the canister system, you will most likely be getting complaints from the better half about ‘that gas smell!’
