Default 79 hatch latch striker bushing?

Is there supposed to be a bushing on the rear hatch striker?

Yes. The Explorer ones are similar. A Torx 45 or 47 takes the latch off. If you get stuck, Stanley or Irwin knife the insert off and add some water boiled garden hose to the existing latch. That will stop it rattling.

I've got an old Hatch Latch Rattles anx Won't Catch post somewhere....

Cannot recall having a bushing on my 79 hatch striker.
Multi bent rod. NPD says used with a trunk.
Later years have a different type latch back there.
