    Default Hatch Louver

Hey guys tomorrow I have a chance to buy this louver for my mid 84 gt. Guy says it was off his 83. Says its oem but I know that oem was 10-12 slats and this is 7. Also read that there can be some fit issues with cars built from mid 84 and up because of the spoiler change. Was this just for oem spoilers or aftermarket also. Looks like it will fit to me but I'd thought I'd ask. Thanks

Looks aftermarket to me, but I might be wrong. Looks like it is long on the bottom and may hit on the one piece rear spoiler, but again hard to say without seeing it in person or even just setting it in place. Good Luck!

Ok thanks Trey. Measurements are 51 1/2 across the bottom. 41 1/2 across the top and
29 15/16 top to bottom. Seems like it's just going to hit the tip of the spoiler but it might depend on how it sits. Do they come to the outside edge of the trim or sit more on the inside? Can they be trimmed up to fit better?

Aftermarket ... not the right shape and too few slats.

Factory louvers were supposedly available in the 1983 model year, at least according to some Ford docs, but I haven't seen any past the 1982 model year.

That's what I figured. Still looks cool imo and would look good on the car....if it fits. Oh and it a aluminum one with all the hardware.

Those look like old "chastain shadow" louvers.

Ok, I read that somewhere else also. Were they decent louvers?

Is it true that the Liftgate Louvers were not available during 1983? Never heard that until now. I have dealer-installed ones at that rate. I have the heavy, glue-in brackets, with the spring-loaded aircraft fasteners.

I have zero 1983s in the database with louvers.

Wow. Now did the 1982 Ford Louvers get carried-over to '84, or were they totally different? And by '84, I'm talking early '84.

The 1983 literature is inconsistent regarding louver availability. One 1983 price book, dated 1-24-1983, shows no louver availability. A later one, dated 4-18-1983, does show louver availability. I don't see louver availability in any 1984 literature but some is not early enough (before rear spoiler change in mid Dec 1983) and some is not dated so it's unknown when it was printed.

Rock Auto says 80-82 had rear wiper option.
Perhaps factory rear louvers had a provision to clear the rear wiper arm?
One less slat on the bottom? Or lift gate louvers n/a with rear wiper?
79 dealer brochure shows 7 slat, ask dealer for availability.
Picture is too dark to show if the sides of the louvers have cut outs.
Or how many rows, if any, of slat reinforcements in the midsection.
No mention of what it is made out of.

Factory installed louvers and rear wiper were not ever available together. Some aftemarket louvers would clear the rear wiper.
