    Default 86 aftermarket heads

Ok I have the stock bottom end 86 with the flat top pistons and no valve reliefs, not changing cams going to use stock cam until short block is done 3-4 months out

Is there an aftermarket aluminum head I can use on the stock pistons now? Some people say trick flow 170's but what is the part number for them if they do work?

    Thanks

Don't know about TF, but I used E7s on my 86 along with the 87+upper and TB, DA1 computer, and BBK unequal shorts. Had plenty of valve clearance on mine.
Made a huge difference in low and mid-range performance.

Actually I can get a set of them that were just rebuilt and trick flow springs installed with mild porting, but my shop guy says still taking a chance if they will even work and may pick up 15-20HP?

I already have a cobra intake, 70mm TB and BBK long tubes 1-5/8"

You can get E7s or the TF? I never had mine dynoed, but SOP sure felt more than 20HP up to about 5600 when it just ran out with the stock cam. I also had 3.27 rear gears. The E7s are tight without reliefs but if the deck is stock height, heads not milled and you run a replacement head gasket with the stock cam and 1.6 rockers you should have enough clearance. The E7s boost CR a little too. However, if you don't have the above dimensions and/or run a 1.7 rocker, it might be too tight.

I believe you can also use the GT40 heads from an Explorer.

Hot Rod Garage did a build with a carbed 85gt. I believe they used Trickflow heads, but 3.73 gear and they went mid 12's with very little tuning. You should be able to do that easily with 4.10's and some tuning.
