Default Opinions on fixing this hood support

Anyone have any opinions on fixing this hood support that someone cut out. ( it was not me)

The hood is mint other than the piece missing. I would be willing to buy a matching piece from someone if they had it. Maybe I can re-weld it.

ps - Don't mind the Chevy under hood light. Very rare option.

    Thanks

    Drew

my 79 hasn't any y bracing there, just a hole for the hood scoop.
    Much less overall bracing too.
Those lights are neat. Have one too, new in toolbox.

Okay, thank you! I was sort of hoping that it was not extremely important.

Yes, I have actually wanted one of those hood lights for a while for another project. Bonus.

Definitely repairable if you want to. The biggest challenge will be not warping the actual hood sheet metal when doing the repair. If possible, tig welding would be the better option. If you can slide some copper or aluminum sheeting under the butt joints of the brace that will help to dissipate some of the heat of welding. Small tack welds and a water soaked towel to cool the welds immediately may work too. Long and tedious, but much better than chasing a warped spot on the hood after the fact. Good Luck!

Honestly, just paint it and install a hood pad. It’s probably not worth the effort.

Someday will install the retractable magnetic 12v light on a fender apron or hatch area in an easy to crank position.
Currently a floating lantern with rechargeable 6v battery has honors of primary on board worklight duty.

Those slotted sections remind me of 12g vertical E-track found in trailers.
Epoxy a piece in and cover repair with the hood padding.
Keeps the hood sheet metal shape intact and from oil canning at 200 mph, like the roof?
Part of the crash and crush safety package?
Anti butt dent support for those bikini models posing on hoods?

I think the OP should make a serious investigation of this issue, with pictures, purely in the interest of science of course.
