I'm installing a rebuilt rack and pinion in my 79 Pace Car. The pinch bolt at the rag joint appears to be a torx head or something like it. What size socket do I use to remove it? Any tips to removing the rag joint?
Thanks
Bob

Unless I am mistake the bolt in question is a 12 point head. Just use a 12 point socket the correct size and you should be good to go. Unfortunately its been awhile since I took it off my PC, so I don't recall the correct size socket needed. Good Luck!

Thanks for your help, I even had the right socket to remove the bolt.

After several attempts, I'm unable to slid the shaft on my rebuilt rack and pinion into the rag joint. There is a bolt on the steering shaft at the firewall, will this bolt remove the steering shaft? Is it easier to remove the shaft and install as a unit?
Any other advise?
Bob
Yes.
I would remove the steering shaft from the car and test fit it on the rebuilt rack on a workbench. Then you can figure out what the problem is.
