Default What Connector Types are used in 79-83 cars

What type of connectors are used in these cars (molex/delphi/???) I need to repair a bunch of wiring in my 83 and if I can't find the right connectors or pins, I'm going to use more modern stuff. I'd like to keep what Ford put in if possible, but knowing what the connectors are is the first step.

I don't think any of the 79-93 wiring pigtails fit the more modern designations. Here is a link that can help you determine what pigtails you might need. Very good resource, but can be painstaking to determine the right pigtail at times. This can be due to the same pigtail design, but having a tab in one specific location or another as the only difference.

Car-pak, Auveco, and other manufacturers replicate many of the more common pigtails, otherwise Ford or their specific vendor may be the only option for some of the pigtails. Don't forget about companies such as Ron Francis Wire Works, and Painless wiring as they do offer some pigtails and short replacement harnesses for different Ford products. Good Luck!

I guess Car-Pak was bought by Auveco recently so now they are one and the same. https://www.auveco.com/

Thanks, I was looking at that yesterday, and I believe that I need the WPT706 connector (3 pin engine harness to body harness) but it doesn't seem to be available anymore. Think this was a common fan and fuel pump connector as well so maybe I can find one in the Junkyard. Also trying to find the throttle position sensor harness side connector (male side I think).

I don't recall if I have any 1983 specific harnesses in my stock pile, but I do have several harness over the years that have been removed from totalled vehicles. If you don't have any luck finding new pigtails, send me a PM and I might have what you need to make repairs. Good Luck!

If you have a harness you want to part with it would probably help a lot. I've got some issues with the wire sheathing just crumbling off, and I'm just not committed to my repair method yet (stock or home grown)

    Good pics.
Shows how old car wire color codes fade, get hard to read, or disappear. Time to re-color code with tape, paint.
The nicked, worn, half broken wires usually covered with grime or hidden from plain view but not the elements.

I keep a box of this HF item in my dc electrical portable toolbox for car splices for extra weatherproofing in addition to tape, loom.

Below pic is the yellowish white grease found gobbed by factory inside elec harness connectors and 1157 bulb sockets.
Ford F2AZ-19584-A for sure or (cannot positively confirm as the same lithium based formula) Motorcraft XG-12.
Is not dielectric grease nor thermal paste. I have XG-3 and that is caliper grease and dielectric compound.

Ford have withdrawn and request the removal of full plug configuration and disclosure from video and supply literature. So posting it here is a good first step.

1983 Rangers and some 351M Bronco full sizes have the plug details on the MCU or EECII diagrams under the on board computer and EVTM manuals.

I've listed those in the 1979 Ford 5.0 crank position sensor post. Ford has been using some clips for longer than others.

I ll post a link. The plugs have a code reference C.xxx number. FoMoCo treat it as proprietry info.

Its actually a standard supplier design, but when Ford buys it from Motorolla or Intel, the supplier signs the rights over to Fo Mo Co

Sorry my wife had a meeting last night, so I was on dinner duty and helping my daughter with homework. Never made it out to my shop to check on pigtails. Hopefully I can check this evening.

NOTE 1: The GT Turbo was a late year addition, so its TPS and some ignition parts vary, and weren't in all 1983 diagrams

NOTE 2: Generic Plug types types are always listed on the EVTM diagram, a FoMoCo color schematic, and what you need for clarity.

Examples for F-trucks/Broncos from from 1981-1983:-

At 30+ years old, they all will be difficult to locate.

Try Green Sales (800-543-4959). The Ford number is WPT-706.

    Not sure how much this will help, but I believe the actual Ford part number is;

Trey or someone here said the cooling fan amperage and wiring was substandard compared to the later stuff. Im not sure if its serviced. If your stuck, it can be 3D printer reproduced. Everything was an interim step, with the Mustang 2.3 EFi Turbo the second cab off the 4 car T bird/ Cougar/ Mustang and then Merkur XR4Ti rank. Im not sure its the same as the Escort or Escort Turbo unit.

I think its a wiring amperage thing, not a connector issue.

Shop around and get one. Ive been able to get most Ford connectors off a same year other model.

I believe I have all of the connectors you need, but the site is not allowing me to upload pictures. I will send you a PM with my contact information and we can communicate offline of FEP.
