The 83 and 84 GT's had the "GT" stickers applied to the fenders just above the "5.0" emblems, and on the hatch lid after "Mustang". The 82 GT's had a simple "GT" emblem on the hatch lid after "Mustang" with no fender badging. The 85 and 86 GT's had no fender "GT" emblems, but had "GT" molded into the bodyside molding between the rear of the door and front of the rear wheel well. They had "Mustang GT" decals on the hatch lid, and a "GT" cutout in the hood decal (a few did not have the hood decal, but did have the "GT" decals at the lower front edge of the hood).

All Mustangs with the 5.0 engine had factory applied 5.0 emblems in chrome on the fenders. That might be what you are seeing, is a non GT Mustang with a 5.0 engine, or an 82, 85 or 86 GT that does not have the fender decals.

When I removed the emblem there was paint on the inside of the holes and this car has never been repainted.

Those look like 1965 style running horses.

Watch how they are placed and drilled..

I just thought they were interesting.

The '65, '66 mustangs had the engine size ahead of the wheel and the running horse behind. Figured someone like that and tried to emulate it in their own way.

Sounds like the previous owner loved the original and added some styling to his to make it replicate that as much as they could.
