Curious to see if I can install a Mustang cluster in my 79 Zephyr. Know the gear indicator has to be modified. Otherwise what can be done ? Like the tach to be in the panel.
Did Zephyrs come with an in dash tach ?

OK. Keeping it Column shift and bench seat so that is limiting me
I removed the entire shifter shaft from my 79 zephyr(linkage was already missing). I left the indicator in the dash though. The shaft was pretty easy to remove, now need the firewall grommet with only 1 hole.
79 Zephyr, 4.6L 4v/4r70w swap, with team z front and rear suspension, 8.8 and upgraded brakes and coil overs. Running Holley Terminator X Max.
I can't give you any specific information in regards to the actual installation. I will just recommend you verify your wiring locations for both the current cluster and the new cluster so you don't have any possible issues. I found that out the hard way when I swapped an 85 cluster into my 79 PC and thinks started smoking! So don't do that!
Another option in regards to the shifter indicator https://www.dakotadigital.com/index....cat/cat401.htm
I just bought one of these to install in my 86 Bronco along with their instrument cluster, so I can't give details just yet on the install, but after looking it over this past weekend, it appears to be a pretty simple option and will allow me to chunk the inaccurate OEM wire system that isn't working correctly right now anyway! Good Luck!
