    Default Callipers or rebuild kits

My ‘83 has the bigger spindles and calipers off of an ‘88, it felt like the brakes were dragging so I’m planning to pull it apart and troubleshoot over the winter.

I’m ordering so other parts so I though I’d price out callipers or rebuild kits to save on shipping. No one has callipers in stock!

Also I’ve found seal kits but they list one for a convertible, I wasn’t aware brakes were different on convertibles,
Is this a parts book error?

Not sure who you are planning ordering parts from or where you have been searching. Rockauto.com shows several caliper options in stock and ready to ship. They also show caliper rebuild kits if you want to go that route instead. The calipers are 60mm and are often noted as 5.0 V8 calipers. As long as one or both of those are noted for 87-93 models you should be fine, assuming you have the 87-93 60mm V8 calipers on your Mustang.

Side notes, the convertible brakes will be the same as a comparable solid roof car, so 4 cyl or V8 brakes depending on engine originally installed. So simple answer NO there's no difference between the convertible and solid roof brakes. Good Luck!

As long as the pistons and bores are in good shape; no rust, pitting, gouges, scoring, etc., rebuilding is way cheaper. And it's not too difficult.

    Thanks!
They are ‘87-93 V8 spindles and calipers.
Unfortunately rockauto doesn’t have two calipers in the same warehouse so shipping will be a killer.
I subsequently found calipers for $44 each in Canada! Free shipping over $100 so I’ll add a few oil filters to get free shipping.

The seals are only about $2 per side but $18 shipping from rock auto :0

    Now I’m more confused.
There’s a part number for calipers for ‘87-93 and a different part number for calipers for 91-93!
    What’s that about?

Ford made a casting change in 1991 IIRC. Calipers are still interchangeable. If you look at some of the Cardone parts it shows 87-93, but also shows the E7SZ and the F1ZZ casting numbers for the part.

    Thanks!
The casting change is a reasonable explanation.
