Default I Bought a Burned Porsche 944 As A New Project

After building my 3rd Mustang in 5 years, I am about fatigued on the Foxes. I had started seeing people talk about the Porsche 944, and their limitations. There are swap options and kits available, which I found interesting. A 2,700lb car that can handle a 400+ hp engine. Sounds like fun. Since I plan to strip the car and build it back up like I do with everything, I didn't expect to find something very nice. I just happened to see one listed on Copart about 3 hours away a little over a month ago. I watched it and won the bid for it. I'm now the owner of a 1987 Porsche 944 for less than $1,100.

I found an insurance card for the previous owner, tracked him down, and he filled me in on the car. I know how it was totaled, what it needs to get back on the road, and what the maintenance history is. It should be a fun project for 2021.

Congrats! I had an 86, great handler. The only V8 conversion I could buy at the time was for a Chevy 350. I came very close to pulling the trigger but didn't. The only things that weren't reliable were: Steering rack and few of the relays, especially the fuel pump relay. These cars suffer from corroded body grounds. Enjoyable car to drive, even long distances which I did regularly.

What a fun build. In 1992 I borrowed a friends 944 for 3 months while in between cars. I had a blast in that thing.

Of course, I'd love to see one topped with one of these.
