    Default Brake caliper differences

Ok guys I’m doing brakes soon on my 86 and converting to 87-93 calipers . My buddy gave me calipers he had laying around but I want to make sure they are v8 calipers before I rebuild . One of them has a ford part number the other doesn’t . I know pistons are the same but does anyone know the measurements of the caliper spindle mount holes ? I looked up the number on caliper and did t come up with anything.
    Thanks

Just a rough guess, the number on the caliper should start with E7– since it was a new part for 87. The rest of the number may not make sense if it is an engineering number.

No such luck. It has a 106868.02 number. Under that is a 4 with a symbol after then a 150. It’s a Ford caliper with ford emblem.

I don't think the spindle is different between 86 and 87 so it should fit without any issues. Looking at rockauto shows the same caliper used between 83 to 93.

The Ford parts book shows a different caliper used on the 87 and up 5.0. In fact it was replaced by 1991 part number.

Calipers are definitely different from 79-86 and 87-93. My spindles should be here in a few days I’ll just check fitment when they get here.

Worst case scenario I’ll just use them as cores for new calipers.

Guys, if you want to use aero V8 style calipers and their larger rotors you must switch to aero V8 style spindles. 86 V8 cars still had the smaller size rotors like the earlier cars did back to I think 1980, even though the caliper piston size was the same as the aero V8 caliper.

The easiest way I found to differentiate was the way the fluid line goes into the caliper. The 87+ v8 calipers used a traditional banjo bolt connection. I believe the 86 caliper used a regular screw-in solution. The hoses are not compatible.
