    Default Missing bulge hoodscoop

    Is it even a "scoop"?

Anyway, I picked up this 82 Capri roller recently. It was a 4 cyl 4 speed car. The hood has several holes drilled in it. Is this for a "bulge" scoop? Something else? Factory or no?

The pattern is close but is definitely not the same as the one I installed on my daughter's 83 Capri. The holes on ours are closer to the body line and the one in the center, front is actually between the grills. I can load a picture if that helps.

I believe that is the scoop mounting holes, not the Capri Power Dome.

If you say it's not, I'll take your word for it! Any idea if the 4 cyl cars would have come with a scoop in 82? If so, what was it? Forward facing scoop... same as 82gt/79 cobra or something different?

    Capri buck tag hood/vent/scoop codes

From my buck tag decoder for the 1982 model year:

02 = vents in hood, no scoop
04 = vents in hood, 'bulge' hood scoop
06 = vents in hood, hole in hood covered by forward facing non-functional hood scoop
07 = vents in hood, hole in hood covered by 'bulge' hood scoop
08 = vents in hood, 'bulge' hood scoop

Please post any corrections, in this thread or the thread linked above. Thank you.

I don't have a Capri with the forward facing 82GT style hood scoop to compare to. The bulge scoop would have two holes in front of the faux vents and one in the center between them for the Power Bulge scoop. Sorry, but I can't get the picture to load onto the site right now.

Great info, guys! I'll have to check the buck tag when I get back in town. So this doesn't sound like it's a bulge style, but the pattern also doesn't look like the forward-facing scoop either (it wouldn't have forward middle stud) or am I wrong?

This is mostly for curiosity sake. I have a spare forward-facing scoop I think. I'll probably go that route.

I do think there is a middle bolt/stud on the forward facing scoop, but not sure of the exact location without looking at one. Might have to pull my 82 GT hood and look closer.

You don't say? I found what I thought was a factory 82gt scoop on ebay. I was going by those pics. After some reading, it seems that one was possibly a diy copy. So I'll have the wife check one of my cars when she gets home. I'm pretty sure the hood from my 79 cobra is leaned against a shelf in my garage. I'll post here in a bit. Thx!

I just found an underside pic of an oem 82gt-style scoop. Looks like we have a winner!
