Default Door alignement after accident - shims ?

    Hi,

I've just noticed that after installing a new driver door to my 79 (I got hit earlier this year) that I can't get it to align properly in the length of the car. Front edge to fender and rear edge to quarter panel are fine.
After the door is tightened, the lower edge sits inwards, making the rocker panel stick out by around 1/4", and the upper window edge is sitting outwards.
When I look at the pillar post, it's not obvious but the lower hinge surface has a slight angle compared to the upper one. It makes sense as it was hit right here.

I'm trying different techniques to pull it out, but it's strong stuff.

Can I simply use a shim or two ?

    Thanks

Yes, you can shim the hinges. The thing that sucks is the door side of the hinge is welded making adjustments that much harder.

Shims on door and fenders were what the factory used on the production line. They factory didn't always do a good job but.............

I believe they make special shims. Or you could try twisting the door.
