Default I might have been using the wrong timing marks...

I have an aftermarket damper. On a STANDARD (non-ho with firing order 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-, when #1 is at TDC compression, the #4 intake looks to be fully open? Does that sound right?

Or, are both #4 valves almost closed and #2 intake is opening?

Basically, can someone confirm whether #2 or #4 intake valve is opening when #1 is TDC compression stroke?

It looks like in both cases #1 looks to be on the base circle still.

Well.....I'm not an expert.....how much valves are open or closed depends on cam duration and overlap
Cyl 1 at TDC both valves closed, spark just fired ~10 degrees ago both valves closed
5 is half-way up on compression stroke --- both valves closed
4 is at BDC of intake stroke --- intake closing, exhaust closed
2 is half-way down on intake stroke --- intake open, exhaust closed
6 is at TDC on exhaust stroke --- intake opening, exhaust open
3 is half way up on exhaust stroke --- intake closed, exhaust open
7 is at BDC of power stroke --- intake closed, exhaust opening
8 is half-way down on power stroke --- intake closed, exhaust closed

Hope this makes sense and is more or less accurate.

I will turn the motor by hand and look. What I really need to know is when #1 is TDC, is #2 or #4 intake open(ing).

I can also pull the other valve cover and look at 5-8.

Cam is pretty low key- Crane 268. Under .500 lift.

I also plan to email the damper folks and see if they can tell me. Hopefully I saved the info. Sigh...

Use a skinny rod or long skinny screwdriver. Take out plug #1 and either turn the crank by hand or a starter button. As the piston approaches tdc, look at you timing marks. Remember, it is at tdc twice in a cycle.

True. Issue is these timing marks sets are quite close together. Maybe 30°? Probably less. Makes it so #1 seems to be on base circle for both sets of timing marks.
I've got all the plugs out to make turning over easier.

Seems like I was smart enough to look at it before I installed the heads, but I want to be sure.
