Did some finishing touches tonight on our 86 3.8 - 5.0 swap.

Here’s a rundown of work over the last few months.

Pulled 3.8
Installed 5.0/AOD (86 Cougar Donor)
Plumbed fuel lines from wheel well to motor.
3G Alternator
Contour fans with Proform digital controller
Adapted wiring harness for 5.0

It took awhile, but there was a lot of down time due to everyone working full time. Also a lot of things had to be sorted out that we didn’t expect (trans linkage among others)

I’m not super satisfied with the wiring. Everything works (haven’t hooked up the AC Compressor yet), but it’s not as tidy as I would like. Kicking around the idea of making up a custom harness or maybe springing for a new one.

There are a lot of upgrades that we are considering (cold air/MAF, GT40 heads/intake, chassis/suspension work) but this will give us a good base line.

On Monday it goes to the exhaust shop to connect the Hooker mid-length headers to the Cobra take-off mufflers and tailpipes. Then we get hopefully a month of driving until it goes back in storage for the winter.

At some point I need to do a full build thread. I bought the car in 2001 and have slowly been making changes. This engine swap was by far the biggest improvement with the installation of an 04 Cobra IRS coming in a close second.
