    Default 3 spoke with cruise?

Anyone played with that? Found a three spoke gt wheel for cheap. I noticed it has 3 contacts and 2 extra connectors under the horn shield. Was this a "we could have but didn't" by ford? Name: PXL_20201004_210408518.jpg

Also interested in this as well. Have a GT wheel as well that I'd like to use in my 84.5 GT vert but didn't wanna ditch the cruise control.

I've seen some of these wheels where the owner added cruise buttons from a 94-up mustang but never any details on how the setup was wired.

Exactly! I don't want to pull my wheel to find out what the setup is.

Saleen sorta did what you are talking about from the factory with aero cars. They pulled the OEM cruise switches out and made a bracket to mount them under what I believe was a MOMO brand wheel. I believe it was around 1987-1989 and the switches came out of the last wheel shown below. Below is the route I went to keep the cruise and the later wheel is much nicer than the OEM and is nice and thick and feels pretty sporty to me.

A big improvement on the OEM wheel but you lost the cruise control and the diamter is a little big

The current wheel. I like it because it keeps the cruise control and it looks nice and it's nice and thick so it

    feels nice.

So that must mean the extra contacts are in fact for cruise? I looked under my hornshield yesterday and it appeared there were only two contacts for the cruise control on their as well. I may have to give that saleen design a go if the wheel I have has everything I need to do it (minus the switches).

looking at the stock part on ebay it looks like the 1984 cruise had 3 pins out while the gt wheel I have only has 2 pins out. What on earth would it have been for if not cruise?

hah, but no, those are up top, you can see it in the picture, they are still attached to the horn. The lower two contacts are 'empty'... and I assume you only need one contact for a horn to work.

I wonder if it could just be a shared hot or ground? That would make a cruise mod super easy.

If you are willing to go aftermarket steering wheel it appears this option will help retain the cruise control just like Saleen did.

If I understand Ford's cruise control system, the switches on the wheel apply 3 different resistor values across the control circuit, which I would think would only need 2 conductors.
If you have a loose wheel, you should be able to check this with an ohmmeter.

Yeah, I just don't want to pull the wheel on the car. I heard that too, but when you look at replacement ford switches for the time they appear to have 3 contacts in a L shape.

Sorry I'm late getting into this thread. But I did the cruise control swap in my 86 GT non-cruise car. I picked up all the cruise pieces from e-bay or friends' cars, including an 89 cruise steering column. I used 01 Cobra cruise activation buttons mounted similar to the Saleen/Momo solution. The column provided the harness and contact rings. Not a perfect match to the tri-spoke curvature, but I may tinker with them later.
