I've drove different cars with non factory carbs & the stock 4180 on my old 83 Capri was the best...

The 4180 carb has annular primary boosters which really help with fuel atomization and, in turn, throttle response. There are a few guys on here that have found a carb through Summit that also has annular primary and secondary boosters they have been happy with. To answer your question between the 2...the 4180 hands down...

I'll second bwguardian's statement above. They're set up for these cars and unless you're running a super-modified combo, the best option for street use.

Sonic cleaner is a good investment. All emissions era Carter and Rochester Spreadbores and Holley 4165/4175 and our beloved 4180Cs are totally chocked with oxide or particulates if they have been in service.

Not everyone is a work with your hands guru, but a sonic cleaner and some time studying Walking Talls 4180 C carb reguvination...it will give you confidence and some ace smarts.

Keep the R1850 as a stand in carb. Holley 4180 C and 4150/4160 series back-up here on this site is exceptional.
