So electrical is not my area of any expertise. Just looking for ideas of where to start.
I have a new fuel pump to put in so I knew the car would not crank but I did get it to turn over. I was actually just going to turn it over a few seconds at a time the next few days before trying to actually start it hopefully this weekend. When I turned the key off the engine continued to run so I have to pull the negative battery cable to get it to turn off.
Now when you touch the neg cable to the batter you get LOTS of sparks so it is obviously shorted somewhere. Looking for suggestions of what to start replacing or where to look. I have checked for any chewed wires and cannot find any. The wiring at the starter solenoid looks like a jumbled mess but it was already that way. I would like to clean that up anyway and figure I could replace some parts there and run the wiring inside the fender to clean it up some.
I have also read it could be the actual ignition cylinder where the key goes and that is a pretty easy and cheap place to start.
Thanks in advance. Any suggestions or directions to other post is greatly appreciated. Here are a few pics of my current restoration
